I just read this article today and thought it was really great. I have spent the better part of a month trying to explain to my partner how there really is no Hindu religion…not in the way that we usually mean “religion”. Josh Schrei , in using the concept of “open source” and “closed source” software really does a magnificent job of explaining the main difference between Hinduism and the rest of the major world religions… Now, if only I could explain the concept of “open source” and “closed source” software to my technologically challenged partner! 🙂
This song is so beautiful and is from The Apple Records album, The Radha Krsna Temple with George Harrison on harmonium, guitar and bass guitar, Tamal Krishna Goswami on flute, Harivilas, Yamuna, Jivananda, Lilavati, Yogesvara on lead vocals, and assembled Hare Krishna devotees on vocals, mridanga and kartals. Govinda is played every morning at all of the ISKCON temples around the world, to greet the deities.
I found the lyrics for Govinda (below) and would really love it if someone could give me an English translation!!
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is adept in playing on His flute, with blooming eyes like lotus petals, His head decked with peacock feathers, the figure of beauty tinged with the hue of blue clouds, His unique loveliness charming millions of cupids.
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, whose transcendental form is full of bliss, truth, substantiality and is thus full of the most dazzling splendor. Each of the limbs of that transcendental figure possesses in Himself, the full-fledged functions of all the organs, and eternally sees, maintains and manifests the infinite universes, both spiritual and mundane.
Check out these beautiful chanting videos. Chanting is a great way to get in touch with your spiritual self. I will have more to say on that in later posts, but for now…enjoy…
